HAPPINESS - PART 1 OF 4
Hello You,
My sincerest apologies the past few months for my absence from the blog space. I’ve taken time to reflect, regroup and re-evaluate the content I would like to share with you. My intent for each blog aims to help bring some relativity to your daily life; to engage your current mindset and understand different perspectives and provide some advice you may benefit from.
As September commences and a new season begins (Spring in the southern hemisphere and Autumn in the north) so does a topic that is close to my heart and hopefully to yours as well.
It’s about Happiness!
What defines it, how is it maintained and most of all what does it mean to you?
According to Psychology Today, happiness can be defined as someone who experiences frequent positive emotions, life satisfaction, appreciation of life and / or moments of pleasure.
I define my own happiness by looking within and the gratitude I have for the simple things in life. I am happy in the fact I wake up each morning to take on another day to knowing my family is healthy and safe, although we are oceans apart. Trust me not all days are a walk in the park and throughout the years I’ve learned to simplify and remember to be grateful for what I have as you never know what might change in the blink of an eye.
So now you have a few definitions about happiness, I ask you again, what does happiness mean to you? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts below.
This week I encourage you to a simple task. Take The Happiness Test by Robert Holden, Ph.D. (who is a British psychologist, author, and broadcaster, who works in the field of positive psychology and well-being.) Write down your score and keep your results in mind as the month progresses. At the end of the month, take the test again and evaluate if your score remains the same or has changed. I will take the test as well and share my results with you.
Next week I will discuss what measures I use to maintain my happiness and share comments from others about their definition of happiness and what it means to them. Until then, I leave you with this quote:
'To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him'
